En 1535, el conquistador espa\u00f1ol Francisco Pizarro lleg\u00f3 a la regi\u00f3n. \u00c9l decidi\u00f3 fundar una nueva ciudad en la costa. Este nombre fue elegido porque la fundaci\u00f3n ocurri\u00f3 cerca del D\u00eda de Reyes, el 6 de enero. Sin embargo, el nombre \u201cLima\u201d pronto comenz\u00f3 a usarse m\u00e1s. La ciudad se convirti\u00f3 en un importante centro de comercio. Muchos barcos llegaban al puerto de Lima. Adem\u00e1s, Lima fue la sede del Virreinato del Per\u00fa.
